Weiss Suite 34 on the Finnish kantele

Post by David Norton » Sat Dec 01, 2018 12:31 pm

The well-known Weiss d-minor suite, played on a Finnish instrument which I'd not heard of previously. The performer is very good indeed.

From Wikipedia I understand this is an instrument that is particularly popular in Finland. Very interesting, thanks for this.

Seems a poor design to have the semitone levers so far away from the plucking position, causing her to occasionally have to alter her phrasing to fit in a quick change. Still, it was pleasant to listen to.
