Beethoven "Moonlight" 3rd movement

Post by John Oster » Thu Dec 20, 2018 4:52 pm

I've seen several electric guitarist performances that resorted to overdubbing and one duet play this movement, but not a solo guitarist!

I'm not quite convinced, Emre Sabuncuoglu has made great transcriptions, but I think this piece works better for two guitars.

I am sure these movements work better for duo, but I am impressed of the intersting transcription.
However the tone of the guitar is quite monotone. Also the tempo is to quick for the guitar. It's more adapted from the piano, where it is more appropriate. The rasguado is used in an interesting instance here. If you play the Sonata on the piano you are very into the Instrument (it's like a loud tutti) when he plays the rasguado, which is noth the case on the guitar, even with the rasguado.
Thank you for the topic - because Beethoven is quite under represented on the guitar ... :merci:

No doubt it works better on two guitars (or one piano...), but it's a pretty good effort. I agree that it could use more color. I guess he's one of the younger generation of players who plays with a largely fixed right hand position. One can only imagine what Bream would have done with the piece, though!

I have heard this played by SoloDuo person and it was fantastic. Too much for one player except maybe K. Yamishita in his younger days?
