Guantanamera (Fernandez Diaz)

Post by Bernhard Heimann » Mon Jun 29, 2009 5:42 pm

Does anyone know of a good transcription for solo guitar
of this enchanting melody - except the one done by Mario Abril,
published by Charles Hansen, New York?
All sources are welcome - published music, download of sheet music or tab.
Thank you for answering.

I really like Abril's arr. but if you want something else the other great one is Maestro Carlos Barbosa-Lima's, from his CD Siboney on Zoho Records. You can purchase his arr. published by Rico Stover's Querico Publications at FineFretted Dot Com or maybe another online retailer.

CBL's is not an easy arrangement but really beautiful. The track is available for individual download at the iTunes Music Store in case you don't want to purchase the entire Siboney CD which by the way has some AMAZING performances & arr.'s of Latin favorites.

Noriyasu Takeuchi includes a fine arrangement (in A) with sixteen other pieces in his collection 'Bossa Nova & Latin Pieces for Solo Guitar' (Gendai Guitar, ISBN 4-87471-104-9).

Hi tony!

Thank you for your answer. Can you please be some more
specific about the "hucbald site" ? Googling for "hucbald" found a music theorist from the early middle ages...
Thank you :)

A site called the six strings dot com has a version of Guantanamera for free that I really like. It is simple to play (never going beyond the 3rd position) and sounds really good. The site has a lot of music for free, particularly jazz, spanish and italian tunes. Great site!
Cheers

I was looking up Guantanamera last night and found a couple of versions on YT that I liked, one by Guiseppe Torrisi and one by Jose Valdez.

I liked the Valdez version more and it is part of a book of arrangements by Valdez, Spanish-Latin American Songs For Classical Guitar. It is not available in the US (only in Philippines), but can be ordered through the email in the YT description below (both standard and tab). I got the download PDF for the book quite quickly.

Torrisi also has some great arrangements I'm interested in as well.

Here's the Valdez version...
