Luthier: Amalio Burguet
Built: 2015
Scale length: 650 mm
Nut width: 52mm
Top: cedar
B/S: Rosewood
Bracing: Fan bracing
Fingerboard: Ebony
Sound : very bright for cedar, bold strong with long sustain
Condition: Brand new, bought last week but is so close in sound to my Hill I’ve decided get a spruce instead for contrast.
Price: £2300
Case: Burguet case

Selling for £100 cheaper than a 1a Burguet this is two models above the 1a so offers good value.
Great sound, very fast sound and bright for a cedar.

I actually prefer the Burguet (on here) to the Hill, as it seems to project more.

Did you buy the Burguet new, and is it the very top of the range (ie. higher than an AB model)?

It’s just bellow the ab model, but described by Vanessa Burguet as one of the top models.
It’s got a very clear voice don’t you think?

Yes, it sounds clear across all its range in your hands. I have always maintained that Burguet guitars are a lot better than some luthier guitars which are double the price.

Absolutely, I tried the 1a in London last year and it was way better than some guitars 3 times it’s price.

Is this the same model as Burguet Maestro Abeto?

Kind regards

Feel free to ask me anything about Japanese classical guitars.

Hi Jon,

The Abeto is the spruce top version of the Burguet Maestro, I have the cedar top.

I saw one website where the 1a is described as "semi professional", which always puzzles me.
Not sure what features the 1a is missing to not call it professional.

I hope someone else can explain it, but a Burguet 1a is not a professional guitar - it is an instrument for an advanced student/amateur.

I am sorry to put bad vibes into Gary's "for sale thread", but I feel I can't let that go unchallenged.

I have to challenge that.

Burguet probably need a way to distinguish the very top of their guitar range (which might have additional features, some of which may be more cosmetic than structural) from the 1a.

Having played many, many luthier guitars I can tell you now that the 1a is comparable, or in many cases, better. When I bought the 1a in 1995, I had visited a few luthiers. I bought the 1a from Ivor Maraints and was surprised at how it outplayed all of the luthiers I had visited so far. (ok, not on the level of Ambridge, but only a step down or so).

I showed my 1a in around 1996 to John Mills, and he agreed with this opinion. Some luthier made guitars are obviously excellent, but made guitars are definitely hyped beyond their worth - I know because I have been to many guitar festivals and played them, and visited dealers offering a range of guitars for sale.

Yes , when I played the 1a in London it was far superior to many concert guitars over twice the price.
