Not quite Ludwig! I said I'd buy it for half price given the unusual wear it might have been subject to recently!!

The balance of this thread recently doesn't seem quite right to me.

Originally the guitar was for sale at £5,200 and the new price was said to be £6,750 ... but I suspect that was without UK tax.

Since then the maths has moved in favour of a sale. A new Ambridge guitar from Stafford Guitar Centre would cost £7,800 before UK tax ... INCLUSIVE price of £9,360. An asking price of less than 50% for a 4 year old guitar sounds very reasonable to me.

But

I have no money.

Surely £7,800 includes VAT? North of 9K seems very steep to me, even including VAT and the dealer's commission.

What would one be direct from Mr. Aram? Most luthiers do not have an annual turnover anywhere near sufficient to trigger the VAT threshold, and I would certainly prefer not to pay it than to do so. The only issue is the wait..but I have often found the anticipation hugely enjoyable.

Cheers,
Steve

£7,800 does not include 20% vat. If that is the same price Simon charges direct then he could comfortably sell 10 guitar in a year without being required to charge VAT. The UK VAT threshold is currently £82,000.

Um, yes, you can buy the guitar directly from the luthier, obviously. Stafford Guitar Centre note that they have availability for Simon's guitars from 2019. There's the price and there's the queue.

I've never played his guitars before (my previous guitar was a Peter Barton). The only point I was making was that the £4,200 price seems eminently fair and proportionate to the market. Is all.

And a year to sell a high quality guitar doesn't seem excessive to me.

He may have a lot of older messages. If the box is too full he can't get new ones so he will have to clean up the box as well or he may miss messages.

Thanks Simon. I have a feeling Merlin is an early sleeper and he is aware of the latest interest in his Ambridge.

The guitar is still available at the price of £4200, not including shipping.

I would have bought the guitar immediately, but the GBP/EURO Ratio is so bad, this is simply too much for me.

Perhaps, but at least there is no tax to pay.

it's all very well to talk about the GDP/EURO ratio - have a look at the Aus $ - just as well we have some very fine luthiers here. The SA looks like an amazing guitar. Merlin - are you really a wizard ? i didn't see you in any of the Harry Potter movies ?
