US $.2500 Jeff Sigurdson “Friederich” Model cedar 2013, Kalamazoo MI

Post by Ledhand75 » Sun Apr 22, 2018 8:56 pm

-Type / luthier: Classical / Jeff Sigurdson
-Year of construction: 2013
-Scale length (mm): 650mm
-Top: Canadian Cedar with close, even grain throughout
-Back / Sides: Indian Rosewood. Sides are laminated with mahogany.
-Neck: Spanish Cedar
-Fingerboard / (bridge): Ebony / (Indian Rosewood)
-Nut and Saddle: Bone, compensated for intonation at nut and saddle.
-Tuners: Klaus Scheller, Hauser style with Snakewood buttons
-Sound: Warm, rich and soulful with good sustain. This quality is sustained whether playing scale runs or digging into chords. Excellent clarity and balance throughout.
-Condition: Very good. A few light scratches on the top, as can be seen in the photos. Finish is in excellent condition. No cracks or repairs. Always maintained at 40-45 % humidity.
-Price: $2,750, now reduced to $2,500
-Viewing / trial possible: Potential buyers are welcome to come and try the guitar
-Location (nearest city): Kalamazoo or East Lansing, Michigan

-Other:Purchased from an excellent fellow Forum member several years ago. Per information provided by original owner this instrument was built to reverse-engineered plans that were drafted by Jeff Sigurdson. The bracing is described as “symmetric.” I do not have further details. This is really an excellent guitar, especially at this price. I have never played an actual Friederich, but this instrument held up quite well compared to a fantastic Delarue that I owned at the same time. The buttery smooth Scheller tuners are quite a bonus on this instrument.

With kind permission from the original seller, a video of this intrument being played by the Canadian guitarist Patrick Teggart is linked below

As you mentioned, those tuners are a nice bonus, but to me that perfect cedar top is incredible! Every year it seems to get harder and harder to find guitars with top woods that are so nice.

That's a wonderful guitar for a great price, good luck on your sale; I'm sure that it won't be in your hands for long!

Thanks Gord. Indeed the quality of the cedar top was the first thing that struck me when I picked this instrument up. I don't think that I've seen a more closely and evenly spaced grain pattern, and I've owned and inspected many great guitars over the years. I'm sure that the quality of the top contributes significantly to the silky and balanced tone. I appreciate your comments.

Price Drop US $.2500 Jeff Sigurdson “Friederich” Model Cedar 2013, Kalamazoo MI

Post by Ledhand75 » Fri Jun 01, 2018 3:35 am

I'm lowering the price to $2,500 after noticing some additional light fingernail marks on the top under direct light, from certain angles. These marks were not visible to me while playing the instrument. I've also decided to include an insulated Hoffee case with cover, to ensure safe shipment.

This is quite a deal for this very fine instrument. I've had several offers from European buyers but I'm afraid the I have to restrict the sale to US only, unless the buyer would care to pick it up in person.

Moderaters, is there a way to adjust the price to $2,500 in the original ad? I'm not sure how to do this.

Thanks

If it was posted more than 21 days ago, as here, you need to ask a moderator to do it for you, either by sending a PM to any moderator or preferably by reporting the message (using the "!" button) and typing in your request there. Moderators don't necessarily read every post, so just asking in a post on the thread isn't the best way. (You got lucky this time. )

When you say "a video of this guitar being played", do you mean the actual guitar that you are selling, or do you mean a guitar of the same model?

Ledhand75-
now that's a really really nice
guitar, from an underrated
builder, at a great price!!!

side note: i played a Sigurdson flamenco
maybe 6 months ago, wonderful.
i played some renaissance
and baroque stuff and it did that well.
my buddy who's a monster flamenco
player, really showed it's true flamenco
character when he go on it. wow!
if at first you don't succeed, try, try again.
then quit.
there's no use being a damn fool about it.

Thanks for your comments Brian. I agree he's a great builder, and this guitar deserves to find a happy home. I'm surprised that it hasn't been snatched up at this price. Beautiful tone, great balance and intoation, superb playability. It stands up to, or surpasses a few instruments that I have previously owned in the $7,000-10,000 range. I may try listing it for a new audience on e - b a y shortly if a domestic buyer does not emerge.

At the suggestion of a helpful member, I’ve added some photos of the insulated Hoffee case and cover that come with the guitar.

Hi. I'm very interested in this guitar, but can't seem to figure out how to contact the seller. The area under contact in the profile is blank. It may be because I just re-registered on the forum today.
