I was hoping a discussion about learning.. it's a philosophical thread about if science proves anything
I wrote only about your question...
well, could you please formulate your question more precisely?

what does it mean?
- "mastering one thing at a time"

1. what time?
a minute? an hour? a year ? a life? an eternity....................................................?

2. and what is "one thing"? - one piece? one set? one concert ? one style? one scale? one note?
could one piece be a one note? - why not?

3. and what is "mastering"? to make it "technically" perfect?
but if one is never satisfied?
"emotionally" perfect? - but our emotions change with the time of our life?

I can imagine someone who is doing some simple task.. let say making something perfectly square...
but could one EVER EVER make it perfectly square? yes... ? - but only by measurement of one's eye.. and somebody else eye will see that it is not "perfectly" square...
and even when other eyes will agree - someone can bring microscope and .. everyone will see that it is not square.. and even then one will manage to make it square for this microscope - someone may take a look via more powerful tool and.. it is not perfect again...and sure one will need an eternity ..............

please give us EXACT definitions for these points!
otherwise your question will not look clear and the answer could be anything.. including discussion about science...
I'd better speak by music...Please listen my guitar at Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, etc.
