What's the last concert you bought tickets to?

Talk about things that are not necessarily related to music or the guitar.

What's the last concert you bought tickets to?

Post by doug » Wed Jul 18, 2018 3:37 pm

Last week, I bought season tickets to The Pamlico Musical Society 2018-2019 season. One of the concerts will be, "The Kruger Brothers," and I am a sponsor of that one. Yesterday I bought tickets to see, "Balsam Range," on Jan. 11, at The Dunn Center, in Rocky Mount, NC. This morning, I bought tickets to, the "Carolina in the Fall" festival, hosted by The Kruger Brothers. It's a two-day music and food truck festival in Wilkesboro, NC.

Believe it or not, my local plumber trained with the Australia ballet (as a dancer, not as a plumber).

Performance or concert?

The last performance we bought tickets for was A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Sydney Opera House. Very well done in avant-garde fashion by a most creative Aussie troupe.

The last concert was Jeff Beck and BB King at the Concord Pavillion. We really went to hear Jeff Beck, who stole the show. Three quarters of the audience left after Beck was done but we stayed just so we could say we heard BB King. Some will probably crucify me for saying this, but BB King and his blues are simply uninteresting compared to Jeff Beck. I'm sure blues fans would say the opposite. Either way, it sure seemed like a mismatch of styles.

Pianist Evgeny Kissin playing Beethoven's "Hammerklavier" Sonata and Rachmaninoff's Preludes. (The site didn't specify if he's playing all of them or a selection--the latter, I would think.)

We also have tickets to Miss Saigon, and the Newport Jazz Festival is next month, we have tickets to see a Jazz ensemble at the Newport Playhouse when we get back from Miami.
We'll be home for a couple of weeks then we're in New Orleans to see Steamboat Willie and Brokedown Streetcar.

The great Jorge Caballero, unfortunately in an acoustically dead space in CT. Small room, should have been great, but too many thick velvet curtains or something. He struggled to project, and did not come out to meet and greet afterwards, something he usually relishes. Good program, but he had a tough time in that room.

Monster Jazz Organist Joey D. Francesco at the Jazz Showcase in Chicago. A stellar performance of solid Jazz Standards. Playing again . . . Rognvald

Ugh, the last concert? Art Ensemble of Chicago - Camden Roundhouse, early 1981!
I always preferred records to gigs. Partly 'cos I'd go to gigs with friends, and drinks were obligatory, and the music was just an expensive blur as a result!
