The M3 is electret, the AKG true condenser, maybe worth reading https://www.neumann.com/homestudio/en/w ... icrophones before you decide

Very useful! Thank you!

Do you think I should take into consideration the Electret x “true condenser” discussion?

It is worth bearing in mind. I was thinking of adding an M3 or M5 to my collection but as I already have electrets I won't, the sound won't be vastly different. It all depends what you are trying to do, frequency response, power (M3 can be battery powered), pick up pattern, are all things to consider along with price when buying microphones. Also worth having a look at reviews (e.g. this is the M3 review on Sound on Sound )

O pulled the trigger on the P170, actually. Not because of the M3 is an electret mic, but because I felt it is bland and thin.

When I took a look on the specs, the P170 confirmed that it has a broader frequency range response and less loss on bass. It will arrive next week. Let’s see what is sounds like!

Thanks!!
